Prince William County Updates
Anyone with
projects in
Prince
William County may be interested in some recent changes affecting Plan
Review and Residential Unit Construction.
New Development
Services Chief
Oscar Guzman
has replaced Liz Via as Development Services Chief. Oscar was formerly the
Chief of Watershed Management Division of Prince William County.
Plan Processing
Changes
Recent minor
changes at
Prince
William County will effect QC submissions, summary letter distribution, Plan
Acceptance Letters and Close Out Notification Letters.
Quality
Control Submissions
Once the
initial QC package has been accepted by Prince William County, submitting
engineers will now be required to submit full sets of plans, design books,
and fee checks within three business days. While this requirement has
always been a part of the Administrative Manual, it has rarely been
enforced.
Summary
Letters
Instead of
mailing or faxing summary letters, the County will now email them to two
members of the submitting engineering firm and to the applicant. Email
addresses must be submitted with the first submission of the plan.
“Plan
Acceptance” and “Close Out” Notification Letters
In the past,
the County has mailed separate “Plan Acceptance Letters” and “Project
Close-Out Letters” to both engineers and applicants to inform them of their
project status. Due to recent changes, these letters will no longer be
generated by Prince William County. If the plan is not accepted, the County
Case Manager will notify the Engineer directly. Instead of “Close Out”
letters, the new emailed Summary Letters (see above) will now include a
“Project Close Out Date.” Subsequent resubmissions of the plans or an
extension request must be made to the County by this date or the project
file will be closed. In the event a project is “Closed Out,” any subsequent
submission will be viewed by Prince William County as a new submission and
all applicable review fees will be assessed. Click

New Sanitary
Lateral Clean-Out Requirements
The Prince
William County Service Authority has recently revised their requirements
regarding sanitary lateral cleanout locations for single-family residential
units. Effective immediately, sanitary sewer lateral clean-outs will no
longer be required at the property line, provided the lateral meets the
spacing requirements of the International Plumbing Code and/or the Counsel
of American Building Officials Code (CABO) adopted by Prince William’s
Plumbing Department. However, an accessible clean-out must be located
within five feet of the unit. This requirement is effective for all
projects where the Utility Permit was issued on or after June 1, 2003, even
if the design plans show clean-outs at the property line. Current projects
with Utility Permits issued prior to June 1, 2003 will be required to
install clean-outs at the property line. Click
